Tucked inside each pannier and wrapped in towels for padding is a Valence Lithium Iron Phosphate U1 (12v/40Ah) battery. System is 24 volts nominal, 40 Ah, or about 1 kwh. The Valence batteries are the key to getting significant range from the bike. They each weigh 13.5 lbs. In the pannier they're about 16 lbs. The main drawback is the cost and ordering lead time: $750 each and 10+ weeks.
