To the left of this picture is a squalid encampment that looks down on the main road. Although I heard no activity, I didn't particularly want to be seen on the main road that traverses the west side of the ridge, so I took this shorter, overgrown road on the east side. I felt better about this decision when I saw what appeared to be a deep track of a road bike tire going this way. A short distance down this road I passed another smaller encampment in a small glade consisting of two old campers and tarps. Trash was all about. The occupants were either sleeping or away as I heard no noise. This short-cut probably took more time because I had to pass a locked gate with no walkaround. (See next picture.)
