Leaving the John Muir Trail.

Notice the use trail veering to the left (and the cairn). This trail goes into the Lost Lake Valley behind Half Dome and is used by climbers primarily to approach the "Snake Dike" route up Half Dome on the dome's southwestern face, opposite the cables that most hikers use.
