The driver of the car (standing at left) and his passenger (sitting on the guardrail) admitted he had taken the last corner too fast and had lost control.
I was riding up the hill, they were going down the hill and had just passed me at a rapid though not, it seemed to me, reckless speed. I heard the tires squeal. I looked in my rear view mirror in time to see the car strike with the sickening crunch of metal and plastic the sandstone embankment on the outside of the corner, followed by its flipping upside-down and sliding across the highway to come to rest a foot short of the guardrail as seen in the photo.
Fortuntately, neither the occupants nor any other road user (including any of us on the ride that had just ridden past the car's resting spot) was seriously injured, and no property damage was apparent other than this car that is most likely a total loss.
